They would rather go to the tanning salon. As long as you continue to offer them excellent services they will always be coming back. They have also heard horror stories about self tanning products and so they are going to avoid them. They want a professional look and not one everyone can recognize as fake.
Being able to show consumers what you offer above self tanning products is important too. Your tanning salon has to be willing to evolve to meet their needs. For example there are plenty of people out there worried about skin cancer so they want sunless tanning products. Be sure you offer them such as a mist tan or with an airbrush process.
Others want a tan in a hurry so they don’t have the time to build up a base tan first. They may be flying to Florida for the week and want to have a nice glow before they hit the beach. These fast tanning methods from your salon can be exactly what they need to feel their best on that trip.
While you do need to make a profit, you need to balance the prices so that you don’t cause customers to self tan. They need to find the value in what you offer so that they can fit it into their budget. They need to know that coming in to tan is a great way to pamper themselves too. It gives them time to relax and it can help improve their outlook for the rest of the day.
Many customers will have questions and you need to be able to answer them. All of the staff you hire needs to be educated in your tanning practices. They need to know what the customer can expect. If the staff doesn’t appear to have a clue then you will lose customers. They can be just as clueless at home with self tanning products. They will value your tanning salon though if you can be there for them.
You also need to offer great products. Again, knowing about them is important. When a person sees self tanning products at the store they don’t know what will work well for them. Therefore they will be less likely to buy them. If your staff takes the time thought to discuss the products available that will help each person with their tan based on their skin tone they will be encouraged to buy and use it.
The more you know about the market around you the better prepared you can be. It isn’t just other tanning salons that are your competition. It is also those various self tanning products on the market today. They are very tempting and some of them are getting very good reviews. Therefore you need to continue to work to get people into your tanning salon. Hopefully they will be so impressed by it they won’t think to use anything else.
